When I was kid, my Great Great Aunt gave me a photocopy of a mimeograph of a transcription of a memoir allegedly dictated by my 4x Great Grandmother. Ever since, I've been enamored by genealogy.
Ancestry.com has made it so easy to research without trudging down to a library to pour through reels of microfilm. When they launched DNA testing in 2011, I jumped on it. I was part of the first group who got tested.
In December 2017, I was interviewed by CGTN America on DNA testing and its hazards.
Take a look at my family tree (currently at 3,038 people) at ancestry.com (account required).
In January 2014, I was appointed to the Westchester County Library Board of Trustees. I had already served as a Trustee for my own neighborhood Bedford Hills Free Library for several years.
I am no longer on these boards, but being involved with public libraries was very fulfilling for me. Public libraries are a vital part of every community and we should do everything we can to support them.
At the 2009 Bridge Conference held just outside Washington, D.C., in late July, I presented with my colleague Brooke Coneys on how nonprofits can rebrand themselves without losing donors.
Industry publication NonProfitPRO interviewed us on the subject matter of our presentation right after the session.
The interview originally appeared on NonProfitPRO's website.
At the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Fundraising Day in New York in 2014, I participated in a rapid-fire panel discussion along with Amy Tripi of Tripi Consulting, Christine Shilosky of Mal Warwkick/Donordigital and Lori Burns of Russ Reid called "30 Ideas in 60 Minutes: Your Hour of Creative Power."
The idea behind the panel was to give attendees a slew of creative ideas they could take back to their organizations and try (or test) right away.
The session was very well attended and covered by Joe Boland in NonProfitPRO as a three-part series.
In the summer of 2014, I presented at and was interviewed at the Library Management Institute conference on fundraising for public libraries.
An article I wrote on a ground-breaking study I lead on multi-channel donor behavior was published as the cover story in the January 2013 issue of the Journal of the Direct Marketing Association’s Nonprofit Federation. Looking at the study through today’s lens, the underlying principles still ring true.
